The National Income Dynamics Study (NIDS), South Africa’s national panel study, has
been running since 2006, when the government commissioned the Southern African
Development Research Unit at the University of Cape Town to undertake the project.
The first wave (survey round) was undertaken in 2008. The preliminary results of Wave
2, undertaken in 2010, are presented in this brochure.
